OVERALL CONCEPT
The architectural theme for the Star Ranch Specific Plan area is an “Old West Stagecoach Route”. Considerable effort was made to identify an overall harmonious theme appropriate for a community that will appear to have developed naturally around the historic Cameron Corners country town in Campo, CA. The architectural design for Star Ranch will avoid introducing architectural themes that originated in locations outside of the rural Southwest.
An important complement to the overall concept of building style is the settlement pattern in which the residential buildings are set. Each residential planning area is arranged along a vast open space of cattle and horse ranching. The overall feeling of being in an authentic rural Old West town will be the result not only of building style, but also of the views in between buildings of wide open spaces of natural terrain, landscape, and animal grazing.
The “Old West Stagecoach Route” theme will define the architecture of this mixed-use commercial center. The commercial center is accessible via State Route 94 and Buckman Springs Road (our community’s northerly main access to the Interstate), which is an authentic Old West Stagecoach Route. Where feasible the commercial frontage will feature wooden style plank walkways in front of the buildings, bridging the on-street parking to the storefronts. Vertical articulation is envisioned by log-post suspended awnings, which would also shade the pedestrian pathway, and occasional second-story porches.
